SERIES OVERVIEW

In a year like this, it can be easy to feel weary. Weary of the constant noise of our culture; weary of the divisions and hardships between our neighbors; weary of headlines that, when brought together, only seem to spell doom for our world. It can be easy to feel alone in an individualized and isolated world, condemned in a culture that seems not to offer forgiveness or restoration, lost in a place where truth and integrity are at a premium, and powerless amidst all the overwhelming conflicts and problems of our day. Yet we know that there is a story, attested to for thousands of years, that tells us such weariness is never the final, decisive word. This story tells of a God who is and has always been with us in loneliness, who is and always has been for us in a condemning world, who is and always has been ahead of us in bringing life and healing to all things lost, and who is actually at work even now through us in real power and redemption. That’s why Christians, every year, have set aside four weeks for a period of time we call Advent: the word itself simply means “arrival,” and it is the time of the year when Christians can be faithful to name and lament the things that we know are in need of redeeming in our world, and when we can celebrate and look forward to the arrival of God to bring such redemption. Join us each week as we remember the truth of Christ’s story, and as we look forward to His arrival to bring strength and healing to specific aspects of our weary world:
